EMILYs List Endorses Three Democratic Pro-Choice Champions for Mayor in Colorado
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed three pro-choice champions for mayor in Colorado: Lauren Simpson for mayor of Arvada, Wendi Strom for mayor of Lakewood, and Julia Marvin for mayor of Thornton. These four women join 16 other mayors endorsed by EMILYs List this cycle as part of the Madam Mayor program. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is honored to endorse these three dedicated and accomplished women in their respective races for mayor in Colorado. We have repeatedly experienced how powerfully Democratic pro-choice women serving as mayors can affect the lives of the residents of their cities for the better. Whether as city council members or professionals in the private sector, each of these women have spent their careers giving back to their communities and delivering results. EMILYs List is proud of all they have done and all they will continue to do for their cities.”
Lauren Simpson has served on the Arvada city council for four years and is now running for mayor. On the city council, she has successfully worked to make city infrastructure improvements, support renters, and promote the arts and humanities. She is dedicated to volunteer work in her community and serves on multiple city council committees.
Wendi Strom is a city councilmember, education advocate, and certified financial planner who has lived in Lakewood with her family for 15 years. She was chosen unanimously by the city council to serve as mayor pro tem and has been active in the public school system and efforts to support children and older Lakewood residents.
Julia Marvin is a communications and marketing professional with an impressive record of delivering results in government, health care, technology, startups, and nonprofits. She is an actively involved volunteer with multiple Colorado organizations dedicated to improving lives in the Centennial State, and plans to focus on increased accessibility and transparency in government if elected.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
