EMILYs List Congratulates Regina Romero on Advancing to the General Election for Mayor of Tucson, Arizona
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated Mayor Regina Romero on advancing to the general election for mayor of Tucson, Arizona. Romero is one of 14 women in EMILYs List’s Madam Mayor program, which was recently launched to support Democratic pro-choice women running for and serving in local executive office.
EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“Regina Romero has been a pro-choice champion for the people of Tucson even as Republicans in the state have been working to make it harder and harder for Arizonans to access reproductive health care. The people of Tucson know that they can trust her to fight for their rights just as she has since being elected — and today, they reaffirmed that. EMILYs List is thrilled to congratulate Mayor Romero on advancing to the general election, and we look forward to continuing to support her.”
Regina Romero has been mayor of Tucson, Arizona since 2019, when she was elected with the full support of EMILYs List. Before being elected mayor, she represented the people of Ward 1 as a city council member and was the first Latina elected to the Tucson City Council. During her time in elected office, Romero has championed a wide range of issues including environmental justice, equal pay for equal work, and citywide revitalization to bring high-wage, long-term jobs to Tucson. Romero also led the effort to pass paid sick leave for Tucson working families and helped develop the city’s response to the ongoing climate crisis. She is a proud first-generation American and Tucson’s first Latina mayor. Romero lives in Tucson with her husband, Ruben, and their two children.
