EMILYs List Recognizes Black Women’s Equal Pay Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, in recognition of Black Women’s Equal Pay Day — a day that acknowledges the severe wage inequity experienced by Black women in the United States and marks how many days into the new year a Black woman must work to earn the same as non-Hispanic white men earned in the previous year. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
 
“Today serves as a necessary reminder of the work we must do to ensure that Black women in this country are paid their due. It is unconscionable that in 2023, Black women are paid just 64 cents for every dollar paid to non-Hispanic white men. At EMILYs List, we are proud to endorse powerful, Democratic pro-choice women committed to eradicating such injustice and building a more equitable economic landscape. It is essential that we elect leaders that will champion marginalized voices and strive to close the wage gap.”
