EMILYs List Commemorates Disability Pride Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July marks the start of Disability Pride Month, designed to recognize the achievements of the disability community during the same month when the historic Americans with Disabilities Act was passed. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

As we celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act this month, we remain committed to supporting diverse Democratic pro-choice women across the country, up and down the ballot, who will work to create a world in which everyone is represented and has access to the care they need.”

“It is true that people with disabilities face greater barriers to accessing reproductive health care, especially abortion, and experience further marginalization and discrimination while seeking that care. We know that bodily autonomy is a cornerstone of both the disability rights and reproductive rights movements, and we are determined today and every day to fight for that autonomy so that all Americans can determine the course of their lives, their families, and their future.”
