EMILYs List Honors Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement celebrating the start of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month:
 
“EMILYs List is proud to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. We honor the contributions of the AAPI community –particularly the women holding elected office who break barriers and fight for their constituents everyday. In doing so, they bring their diverse stories and perspectives to the halls of power. We are proud to have supported many Democratic pro-choice AAPI women through their election process from Vice President Kamala Harris, the first South Asian  woman elected to the vice-presidency to Sen. Mazie Hirono, the first Asian American woman elected to the U.S. Senate. Sen. Hirono has proven to be a legislative force to be reckoned with and a pro-choice champion who has spearheaded a bill to protect the rights of abortion providers.” 

“During the month of May and all year long, we will stand with and uplift Asian American voices;centering their stories, especially as violence against this  community has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic. We recognize that our work is far from over – and we will continue to support Democratic pro-choice AAPI women running for office to change the world.”
