EMILYs List Celebrates Women’s History Month
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In celebration of Women’s History Month Laphonza Butler, president of EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, released the following statement:
“Today, as Women’s History Month begins, I reflect on the national theme of the month, Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories and it makes me proud to celebrate the women who EMILYs List has supported over the years –women who through their work in the halls of power tell the stories of our varied experiences. Women like Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28), Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, and Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and many others have and are changing the face of power. EMILYs List endorsed leaders continue to break down barriers at every level of the government. And we will not stop.”
Though we celebrate, we know that the fight is far from over. There are still historic firsts that have not been achieved. Republicans continue to work to strip Americans of their reproductive rights and perpetuate shameless attacks. EMILYs List is dedicated to working to elect Democratic pro-choice women who make history while defending our fundamental freedoms. We are proud to celebrate and stand alongside the women who are committed to change.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
