EMILYs List Puts Lori Chavez-DeRemer “On Notice”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, announced that it was placing Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05) “On Notice.”Chavez-DeRemer joins 22 other extremist anti-choice House Republicans as some of EMILYs List’s top targets to defeat in the 2024 election cycle. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“In spite of the fact that abortion is protected in Oregon and the vast majority of Oregonians support reproductive freedom, Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer has shown that she will stop at nothing to try to roll back that freedom. She is so extreme she has voiced support for an abortion ban that would criminalize doctors, include no exceptions for rape or incest, and take effect before most people even know they are pregnant. When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and stripped the right to an abortion from millions, Chavez-DeRemer said she was ‘encouraged’ that states now had the right to ban reproductive health care. We cannot allow a radical anti-choice extremist like Chavez-DeRemer to remain in power and continue to work to destroy our rights — we must vote her out.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
