EMILYs List Congratulates Annie Kuster on Her Reelection to New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Annie Kuster on her reelection to New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Rep. Annie Kuster’s years of experience not only serving in Congress but serving women facing unplanned pregnancies have given her the needed perspective to understand the importance of this current moment: that anti-choice extremism cannot be allowed to take hold in New Hampshire. EMILYs List is proud that the people of New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District have once again put their faith in Kuster to protect their freedoms, and we know that she will faithfully serve them just as she has in all of her years as their legislator.”

Rep. Annie Kuster is currently serving her fifth term as the representative for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District. She was born and raised in Concord, New Hampshire. Her mother, Susan McLane, served in the state Senate and was a pioneer for women in Granite State politics; her father, Malcolm McLane, was a WWII veteran and POW who served as Concord mayor and as a New Hampshire executive councilor — and both taught Kuster the importance of public service. She worked as an adoption attorney for 25 years, and has said that she “witnessed the extraordinary courage and compassion of women” facing unplanned pregnancy. “Not once did I believe that the government should interfere with their personal and private decision,” Kuster has said. She is a longtime community activist, and has served on the boards of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, New Hampshire Public Radio, the Capitol Center for the Arts, and Child and Family Services of New Hampshire. Kuster and her husband Brad live in Hopkinton, where they raised their two sons, Zach and Travis. In 2012, she defeated an incumbent Republican to become the first woman to represent New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District. During her first term she also made history as part of the nation’s first all-women delegation. Kuster works tirelessly to increase economic opportunity for Granite Staters, and she is committed to breaking through gridlock in Congress to get results for the people she serves.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
