WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on her reelection. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

We know that we can count on Secretary Benson to administer free and fair elections in Michigan; she was honored with the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for her bravery preserving electoral integrity in 2020, and she’s prepared to continue fighting for democracy. We’re proud to stand with this pro-choice champion at this crucial juncture for our voting and reproductive rights and our democracy.”
Jocelyn Benson is an expert on civil rights law, education law, and election law. She graduated from Harvard Law School and served as the dean of Wayne State University Law School. Previously, she was an associate professor and associate director of Wayne Law’s Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights. Prior to her election, Benson served as the CEO of the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality and co-founded the Military Spouses of Michigan. She was elected Michigan’s 43rd secretary of state in 2018, becoming the first Democratic woman to hold the office.
