EMILYs List Congratulates Mikie Sherrill on Her Victory in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Mikie Sherrill on her victory in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Rep. Mikie Sherrill has been a distinguished representative for the people of New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, advocating for their rights and providing leadership through the challenge of the global pandemic. EMILYs List is proud that the residents of Rep. Sherrill’s district have once again voted to send her to Congress, and we know that she will continue to fight for reproductive freedom not just for her district but for all Americans.”

Mikie Sherrill graduated from the United States Naval Academy and spent nearly a decade on active duty in the United States Navy, where she served as a helicopter pilot. After leaving the Navy in 2003, Sherrill went on to earn her law degree from Georgetown University and she joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey to continue her career of service. She prosecuted federal cases and advised law enforcement on investigations as an assistant U.S. attorney before she decided to run for office for the first time after the 2016 election. Sherrill lives in Montclair, New Jersey with her husband Jason, also a Navy veteran, and their four children.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
