WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Becca Balint on her historic election to the U.S. House of Representatives. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement: 
 
“EMILYs List congratulates Becca Balint on her historic election to Vermont’s At-Large Congressional District, becoming the first woman and first openly gay person to represent Vermont in Congress. We’re proud to stand with Balint as she makes history, and makes Congress more representative of the electorate, and we’re eager to see her continue securing major victories for Vermonters in the U.S. House of Representatives.” 
 
Becca Balint is a mom, teacher, and progressive leader with a proven record of securing major victories for the Green Mountain State. Growing up gay and the granddaughter of a man killed in the Holocaust, Balint developed a deep sense of empathy and a strong conviction to fight for justice from a young age. She has said that this “innate sense of justice” has motivated her throughout her life, guiding her work as a middle school teacher in rural communities and her service to Vermont as president pro tempore of the state Senate. She currently lives in Brattleboro, Vermont with her wife, Elizabeth, their two children, Abe and Sarah, and their dog, Wheelie.
