EMILY’S LIST RECOGNIZES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

WASHINGTON, D.C. – EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month: 
 
“EMILYs List stands with brave domestic violence survivors, and the advocates who work tirelessly making change for them. We are proud to support candidates who understand the importance of policies that increase access to the tools people need in times of crisis. Candidates like Colorado state Rep. Monica Duran, who as a survivor of domestic violence herself, introduced a bill to reduce access to firearms for abusers. Or Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who was the chief compliance officer for one of the nation's largest domestic violence centers. Or Cheri Beasley, who worked tirelessly to keep access to the courts available to survivors as chief justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court during the pandemic.
 
“With a marked increase in domestic violence cases during the COVID-19 pandemic, advocating for survivors has never been more important. That work must always include protecting abortion rights, as survivors’ autonomy and ability to make their own reproductive health choices are an important part of reclaiming their own autonomy. At EMILYs List we will continue to support candidates who advocate for expanded accessibility of resources that will prioritize the safety of all.”
