EMILY's List Announces its Fall 2022 Ignite Change Fellows

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILY's List, the nation's largest resource for women in politics, announced the selected fellows for its Fall 2022 Ignite Change Fellowship, a nine-week virtual initiative to train deeply engaged community leaders and advocates on developing their political skills, leadership, and confidence in potentially running for office:

“This year's diverse fall cohort couldn't come at a more integral time. After the United States Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and Republicans' recent introduction of a national abortion ban, we need more Democratic pro-choice women from various backgrounds to run for government at all levels,” said Johanna Silva Waki, vice president of training and community engagement at EMILY's List.

“As our rights continue to be attacked by extremist anti-abortion Republicans, it is more important than ever to train, equip, and empower women like the ones in our fall cohort to run for office and give them the tools they need to be successful because when Democratic pro-choice women are in office, they protect our rights. We're excited to see the Fall 2022 Ignite Change fellows learn and acquire the tools they need to turn their passion for community activism into political power.”

Since its inception, more than 120 activists, organizers, and community leaders have joined the Ignite Change Fellowship. 72% of fellows are under the age of 35, 67% identify as POC, and 33% identify as LGBTQ+. This year's diverse Fall cohort is made up of 73% people of color, 40% LGBTQ+, and 87% under 35 years of age. Starting on Saturday, Oct. 8, these fellows will join virtually from across the country to learn the nuts and bolts of running for office and gain the confidence to take the next steps for their own campaigns.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised over $700 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure campaigns for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,400 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
