EMILYs List Congratulates Jessica Cisneros  for Advancing to the Runoff Election in the Texas 28th Congressional District Race

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated Jessica Cisneros on advancing to the runoff election in the race for Texas’ 28th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Laphonza Butler, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement: 

“EMILYs List is proud to stand with Jessica Cisneros as she runs to represent her hometown in Congress and congratulate her on advancing to the runoff. As abortion access and voting rights continue to suffer attacks, she is prepared to defend them and run a strong general election campaign, unlike her anti-choice opponent, Congressman Cuellar.”

Born and raised in the border town of Laredo, Texas, Jessica Cisneros is a human rights attorney and daughter of immigrants. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, where she specialized in immigration law. In 2019, Cisneros launched her first campaign to challenge Rep. Henry Cuellar, coming within 3,000 votes of victory. In the following years, she worked at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid and the Asylum Defense Project in Laredo, Texas. Cisneros was most recently the supervising attorney at the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES).

EMILY's List Women Vote worked with partner organizations and contributed to NARAL's digital campaign focused on educating voters in the district about Congressman Cuellar's opposition to abortion rights.
