EMILYs List Statement on the Failure of the Women’s Health Protection Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Women’s Health Protection Act was blocked in the Senate. Laphonza Butler, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement: 

“Today is a reminder of how important it is to elect pro-choice candidates. As more states pass abortion bans and the Supreme Court weighs the very future of Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to an abortion, the failure to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act leaves far too many without abortion rights and access. Equal access to abortion, no matter where you live, is crucial to ensuring reproductive freedom, social and economic equality, and the right to determine your own future. This outcome is devastating for those whose access to abortion is currently cut off. At EMILYs List, we are proud to stand with Democratic pro-choice women who led this fight and are committed to electing more of those women across the country and up and down the ballot to finish the job and protect our rights.”
