Statement on the Anniversary of the Jan. 6 Insurrection

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On the anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection, EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler offered the following statement:
 
“As we look back at the insurrection on Jan. 6, we want to thank the brave women and men who stood in the face of violence, hate, and lies to ensure that our Capitol was protected and that our votes were counted. And we remain grateful to those who believe public service should be about promoting our rights and our democracy and who do the hard work to run for office and serve in offices around the country.
 
“One year after a deadly insurrection, we are still facing threats to our democracy federally and in states across the country. We need to ensure that our elected leaders are fighting for the right to vote, instead of working to limit the ability to make your voice heard. And we must hold those accountable who would undermine our voting rights, in court or at the ballot box.”

With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls.
