EMILYs List Congratulates Amara Andrews for Advancing to the Runoff Election in the Cedar Rapids, IA Mayoral Race

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated Amara Andrews on advancing to the runoff election in the race for mayor of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Laphonza Butler, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement: 

“EMILYs List is thrilled that Amara Andrews has advanced to the runoff election to be the first Black mayor of Cedar Rapids. Andrews is a strong community leader who will prioritize economic recovery by investing in the city and creating a local government accessible to all. We will continue to support Andrews ahead of the runoff election and look forward to seeing her impact on the city.”

Amara Andrews is a businesswoman and community leader in Cedar Rapids. She has lived and worked in the community for nearly 10 years. Andrews is head of business development and communications for the transportation division of TrueNorth Companies in Cedar Rapids. She was a teacher for a number of years before going to the UCLA School of Law for her law degree. In Cedar Rapids, Andrews has served on the board of the Boys & Girls Club and is currently president of the board for The Academy for Scholastic and Personal Success. She also serves as vice president of the board for the Advocates for Social Justice. If elected, Andrews will make history as the first Black mayor of Cedar Rapids.
