EMILYs List Congratulates Sydney Kamlager on Advancing to the General Election in California’s 37th Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulates Sydney Kamlager on advancing to the general election in California’s 37th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:

“Sydney Kamlager’s time in elected office has been defined by a commitment to fighting for equity for those she represents. Kamlager has been a champion for women, children, families, and those most in need, and she has used the power of her office to advance their rights to education, health care, and making their voices heard at the ballot box. EMILYs List is proud to support Kamlager as she moves forward in the general election to serve the people of California’s 37th Congressional District.”

Born to biracial parents in Chicago, Sydney Kamlager came to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California. Kamlager worked at the Social and Public Arts Resource Center and then as an advocate for quality child care at the nonprofit Crystal Stairs in Los Angeles. In 2013, she was appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission on Children and Families. In 2015, she was elected to the Los Angeles Community College Board where she fought to make higher education and career training affordable and accessible. Kamlager ran for state Assembly in 2018 and served one term before being elected to represent District 30 in the state Senate.
