EMILYs List Endorses Four Women Leaders for Election to the New York City Council
Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed four women leaders for election to the New York City Council. Emily Cain, executive director of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“This courageous group of diverse women includes single mothers, children of immigrants, community advocates, and overall trailblazers who are committed to improving the lives of all children and families in New York City. Each of these women has shown a clear commitment to public service by advocating for issues such as reproductive freedom, affordable housing, environmental justice, equity in education, and accessibility to health care, including mental health resources. EMILYs List is thrilled to support each of these women, and we look forward to the positive impact they will have on women, children, and families as part of the New York City Council.”
EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of candidates for election:
- Althea Stevens (District 16)
- Jennifer Gutiérrez (District 34)
- Tahirah Moore (District 36)
- Nikki Lucas (District 42)
These endorsements are in addition to the following six previously endorsed EMILYs List candidates in the race for New York City Council: Carlina Rivera (District 02), Adrienne Adams (District 28), Selvena Brooks-Powers (District 31), Darma Diaz (District 37), Alicka Ampry-Samuel (District 41), and Farah Louis (District 45).

After the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices. In our effort to elect more women in offices across the country, we have created our Run to Win program, expanded our training program, including a Training Center online, and trained thousands of women.
