EMILYs List Endorses Senator Tammy Duckworth for Reelection

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Senator Tammy Duckworth for reelection in Illinois. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:

“Senator Tammy Duckworth is a trailblazer who has never shied away from a fight, and EMILYs List is proud to endorse her for reelection. A Purple Heart recipient who has dedicated her career to championing change for Veterans, servicemembers and working families, Tammy is the advocate Illinoisans deserve in Washington. On top of her inspiring career, as the first senator to give birth while in office, Tammy has empowered women across the country to reimagine the face of leadership in this country. We continue to be inspired by Tammy’s grit and ability, and we are thrilled to continue to stand with her.” 

United States Senator Tammy Duckworth is a Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a former assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and a former head of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. She served in the Reserve Forces for 23 years before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2014. Tammy has remained committed to public service, advocating for Veterans and disability rights and fighting for Illinois’ working families. Fluent in Thai and Indonesian, Tammy holds a master’s degree in international affairs and a Ph.D. in human services. Tammy was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012, where she served on the Armed Services and Oversight and Government Reform Committees, and went on to be elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016, flipping a seat from red to blue.
