EMILYs List Invests More Than $1 Million in Effort to Flip the Pennsylvania General Assembly from Red to Blue and Elect Nina Ahmad
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today with just two weeks until Election Day, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, announced that it has invested a record $,1,026,500 in the fight to flip the Pennsylvania General Assembly blue and elect Nina Ahmad as auditor general. This is EMILYs List’s largest financial investment in Pennsylvania’s state legislative races and is part of an ongoing effort to flip legislative chambers by increasing the number of pro-choice Democratic women serving across the country.
“Pro-choice Democratic women are key to flipping the Pennsylvania state House and Senate blue, and we’re proud to stand with our 35 endorsed candidates who will get the job done and with Nina Ahmad in her historic bid for auditor general,” said Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List. “While the Pennsylvania GOP continues to play politics during the ongoing pandemic, our candidates are focused on bringing relief to women and working families who continue to bear the brunt of this unprecedented economic and public health crisis. With early voting in full swing and so much at stake for reproductive freedom, health care, and redistricting in 2021, we are confident that our historic investment will make the difference in the final push toward Election Day and help get our women over the finish line.”
Democrats in Pennsylvania need to flip five seats in the Senate and nine seats in the House to gain the majority. This cycle EMILYs List has endorsed 35 pro-choice Democratic women for the General Assembly: Judy Schwank (SD-11), Janet Diaz (SD-13), Amanda Cappelletti (SD-17), Carolyn Comitta (SD-19), Pam Iovino (SD-37), Julie Slomski (SD-49), Emily Kinkead (HD-20), Sara Innamorato (HD-21), Emily Skopov (HD-28),Marlene Katz (HD-29), Lissa Geiger Shulman (HD-30), Summer Lee (HD-34), Jessica Benham (HD-36), Michele Knoll (HD-44), Liz Hanbidge (HD-61), Patty Kim (HD-103), Brittney Rodas (HD-105), Lindsay Drew (HD-106), Joanna Bryn Smith (HD-120), Wendy Ullman (HD-143), Jill Dennin (HD-147), Nancy Guenst (HD-152), Danielle Friel Otten (HD-155), Dianne Herrin (HD-156), Melissa Shusterman (HD-157), Christina Sappey (HD-158), Leanne Krueger (HD-161), Jennifer O'Mara (HD-165), Kristine Howard (HD-167), Deb Ciamacca (HD-168), Mary Isaacson (HD-175), Claudette Williams (HD-176), Ann Marie Mitchell (HD-178), Elizabeth Fiedler (HD-184), and Regina Young (HD-185).
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
