EMILYs List Endorses Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx for Re-Election
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Kim Foxx for a second term as Cook County State’s Attorney. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“During her historic tenure as State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx has made Cook County safer, fairer, and more equitable and EMILYs List is proud to endorse Kim in her re-election campaign. With a vision to build the country’s most just and equitable prosecutor’s office and a mandate to bring transparency and balance to the criminal justice system, State’s Attorney Foxx has distinguished herself as a leader in the fight for fairness and accountability, and has continuously delivered on her promise to keep communities safe. In addition to her trailblazing efforts to reform the criminal justice system, Kim Foxx has also worked hard to reform the internal operations of the State’s Attorney office by empowering women and elevating them to every rank in leadership.”
In 2016 Kim Foxx made history as the first African American woman to serve as Cook County State’s Attorney. Under her leadership, the state’s attorney’s office has made substantial progress on critical issues including wrongful convictions, bond reform, and gun violence, and has become the first and only prosecutor’s office in the country to make felony case-level data publicly available. Prior to her election as State’s Attorney, Kim was chief of staff for the Cook County Board President and served as an Assistant State’s Attorney for 12 years. Kim was born and raised in Chicago’s Cabrini-Green Housing Project and received her B.A. and J.D. from Southern Illinois University. She is the 2018 recipient of the Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award, which celebrates an extraordinary woman serving in state or local office who demonstrates determination, civility, a commitment to community, and dedication to women and families.
