Led by EMILY's List Women, Democrats Take the U.S. House Majority

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Democratic Party took back the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. As of press time, at least 23 of the party's nominees in red-to-blue seats have won their election — 17 of them EMILY's List women. In response, Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, released the following statement:

“Tonight, voters sent a resounding message to this administration and the Republican leadership in Congress that has sought to end health care access for millions of Americans, take health and reproductive choices away from women and their families, gut environmental protections, and reward the biggest corporations on the backs of the middle class: no more. In district after district and led by a huge turnout from women voters, seats have been flipped — ousting Republicans who have failed their constituents and electing women at a record-setting pace to take their places. This wave would have been impossible without a strong and diverse class of U.S. House candidates — the powerful, pro-choice Democratic women who fought tirelessly to win their elections tonight. We could not be more excited to see them sworn in this January. History has been made and we're never going back.”
