EMILYs List Congratulates Debbie Mucarsel-Powell on Her Victory in Florida’s 26th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, congratulated Debbie Mucarsel-Powell on being elected to represent Florida’s 26th Congressional District in the U.S. House. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“EMILYs List proudly congratulates Debbie Mucarsel-Powell on tonight’s victory in Florida’s 26th District, which flipped this crucial seat from red to blue. Debbie is a first-generation American who grew up helping her family make ends meet. As a mom whose family was touched by gun violence when her father was murdered by a criminal with a gun, Debbie will bring a unique and critically important perspective to Congress. In Washington, her priorities will be to expand economic opportunity for all Floridians, defend access to affordable health care, keep our children safe, and stem the impact of climate change. As the first woman to represent Florida’s 26th District, we look forward to welcoming Debbie’s fresh perspective to Congress.”
Women Vote, EMILY's List's independent expenditure arm, invested more than $500,000 in a robust two-track bilingual direct mail program, Spanish language radio and partnered with House Majority PAC on Spanish language cable TV.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
