EMILYs List Endorses Six More Women Leaders for the New Mexico State Legislature
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed six more women leaders for the New Mexico state Legislature. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“In 2016, EMILYs List-endorsed women helped flip the balance of the New Mexico House. Now, as anti-choice advocates and Republicans up and down the ballot turn New Mexico into a battleground on women’s rights, it couldn’t be more important to send a wave of pro-choice Democratic women to the statehouse. EMILYs List is proud to endorse these six incredible leaders who are ready to protect New Mexico women and families.”
EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of candidates:
Representative Joanne Ferrary (HD-37)
Natalie Figueroa (HD-30)
Joy Garratt (HD-29)
Day Hochman-Vigil (HD-15)
Melanie Stansbury (HD-28)
Representative Liz Thomson (HD-24)
These endorsements are in addition to six previously endorsed EMILYs List candidates in New Mexico – Representative Patricia Roybal Caballero (HD-13), Christine Chandler (HD-43), Andrea Romero (HD-46), Representative Doreen Gallegos (HD-52), Stephanie Garcia Richard (Land Commissioner) and Maggie Toulouse Oliver (Secretary of State) – who advanced through their primaries on June 5, 2018.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
