EMILY's List Recognizes LGBTQ Pride Month
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today marks the first day of LGBTQ Pride Month. In recognition, Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“This month, we celebrate the tremendous impact LGBTQ Americans have had on our history, and remember those whom we have lost. We also recognize that our fight for civil rights, equality, and justice is far from over. Donald Trump and his cabinet filled with anti-equality radicals are taking every opportunity to roll back progress and discriminate against all LGBTQ Americans: attacking marriage equality in efforts to legalize discrimination, turning their backs on LGBTQ students facing discrimination at school, dismantling health initiatives intended to help the LGBTQ community, and moving to ban transgender service members from the armed forces. Rather than working to stop him, the Republican Party has just cheered him on — and in states across the country, the GOP has worked to pass dangerous anti-equality legislation of their own including policies that turn away LGBTQ families seeking to adopt and foster children and legalize discriminatory business practices.”
“With the stakes this high, it’s essential that as progressives and as Democrats, we stand up and fight back. That’s why EMILYs List is focused on electing LGBTQ women like Governor Kate Brown, Senator Tammy Baldwin, Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema, Gina Ortiz Jones, Angie Craig, Katie Hill, and Sharice Davids to office in November. We need their voices at the table now, more than ever. We cannot and must not go back.”
