SOUND THE ALARM: Endorsement by Anti-Abortion Extremists Reveal GOP’s Out of Touch Agenda to Ban Abortion
In case you missed it, anti-abortion extremists are trying to stop voters in Virginia from enshrining their reproductive rights in the state constitution. In order to do so, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) — the oldest and largest anti-abortion group in the country — has endorsed a slate of Republican candidates across Virginia, including Winsome Earle-Sears for governor, John Reid for lieutenant governor, and the opponents of EMILYs List-endorsed women in key House of Delegates races.
NRLC openly rejects exceptions for rape or incest and has backed policies that endanger women’s health, delay emergency care, and restrict personal freedom. This November will decide whether Virginia will remain the last Southern state without an abortion ban.
“Virginians are working harder than ever to keep up with rising costs, yet Republicans are obsessed with pushing an extreme agenda that puts our health care and freedoms on the chopping block,” said Yari Aquino, senior director of campaign communications at EMILYs List. “From Medicaid to reproductive freedom, they’ve sided with anti-choice groups instead of Virginia families. EMILYs List women are fighting back up and down the ballot to fight to protect health care, safeguard our rights, invest in our kids’ education, and lower costs so every family has a fair shot.”
Among those endorsed are David Owen (running against May Nivar in HD-57), Ian Lovejoy (against Elizabeth Guzmán in HD-22), Chris Obenshain (against Lily Franklin in HD-41), Paul Milde (against Stacey Carroll in HD-64), Bobby Orrock (against Nicole Cole in HD-66), Amanda Batten (against Jessica Anderson in HD-71), Mark Earley Jr. (against Leslie Mehta in HD-73), Carrie Coyner (against Lindsey Dougherty in HD-75), Kim Taylor (against Kimberly Pope Adams in HD-82), and Mike Lamonea (against Kacey Carnegie in HD-89) — all candidates who could rubber-stamp the NRLC’s dangerous agenda to end all abortion, without exceptions.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Over 40 years, EMILYs List has raised nearly $950 million to help Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the most impactful independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 192 women to the House, 29 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,600 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
