EMILYs List Announces First Round of State Office Endorsements in Georgia Ahead of May Primary
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, made its first round of Georgia state office endorsements ahead of the May 22nd primary, endorsing five women leaders for statewide and legislative seats. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Voters in Georgia have the opportunity to make history this year. Not only can they elect the first African American woman governor in the country, but they can also elect a record number of women to the state legislature. Four of these women are first-time candidates whom EMILYs List is proud to endorse ahead of their primaries because we know they have what it takes to flip the districts and statewide office that they’re running for. The fifth, incumbent Park Cannon, is a millennial who carried on her predecessor’s groundbreaking legacy as an LGBTQ woman of color serving in the state legislature. EMILYs List is excited to stand with all five of these women leaders and show them the full support of our community.”
EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of candidates:
Lindy Miller (Public Service Commissioner)
Park Cannon (HD-58)
Betsy Holland (HD-54)
Angelika Kausche (HD-50)
Aisha Yaqoob (HD-97)
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
