September 5, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, EMILYs List’s Women Vote announced an independent expenditure for Maryland’s U.S. Senate race in support of Angela Alsobrooks, highlighting Republican Senate candidate Larry Hogan’s anti-abortion record, including vetoing legislation that would have protected abortion access and withholding funding for abortion provider training. Starting today, EMILYs List’s Women Vote will air the TV ad titled “No Threat” on Washington, D.C. and Baltimore broadcast and cable TV at a total cost of $2.2M.

Jessica Mackler, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement on the ad buy:

“Angela Alsobrooks is a groundbreaking candidate with the talent and experience necessary to defeat Mitch McConnell’s top recruit, Republican Larry Hogan. While Hogan is trying to hide from his anti-abortion track record, we are going to make sure voters know his real record. As a proud Maryland resident, I know we are ready to elect Alsobrooks to the Senate and protect our rights.”

Whatever you think of Larry Hogan, know this.
His entire career he’s been anti-abortion.
So don’t let him fool you now.
Hogan dismisses the real threat of a national abortion ban.
As governor, he vetoed legislation protecting abortion access.
Then withheld funding to train abortion providers.
The Washington Post says it’s an example of how “an anti-abortion leader can thwart” access for women.
If he didn’t protect us then… why trust him now?
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
