Women Vote Announces New Ad Criticizing Adam Laxalt’s Appalling Record on Choice

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List’s Women Vote announced its first television expenditure in Nevada’s senatorial race highlighting former Nevada attorney general and Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Adam Laxalt’s abysmal record on choice and abortion access. The TV ad “Historic” will air on broadcast, cable, and satellite in the Reno and Las Vegas media markets starting today at a total cost of $2.1 million.

Women Vote Executive Director Melissa Williams remarked on the importance of this investment with the following statement:

“Politicians like Adam Laxalt are responsible for stripping reproductive rights from millions of American women against their will. While attorney general, Laxalt consistently worked against abortion access and reproductive health services in Nevada, and there is no question that he would oppose restoring those rights if elected to the Senate.

“This is a tragic time in American history, and we cannot allow anti-choice extremists like Laxalt to gain even more power to determine our lives and our futures. EMILYs List is proud to once again be standing with Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto in her reelection campaign. We know that unlike Laxalt, she will defend the reproductive freedoms of all Americans, just like she has her entire career.”

SCRIPT: “Historic”

The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade holding that there is no longer a federal constitutional right to an abortion.
Adam Laxalt called that decision taking away our rights an “historic victory.”
Unapologetically pro-life, Laxalt has made a career pushing to limit abortion rights, committed to taking control of every woman’s personal decision and giving it to politicians.
Adam Laxalt — he’s coming after our freedom.
We need to tell him no.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and more than 1,300 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. After the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices. In our effort to elect more women in offices across the country, we have created our Run to Win program, expanded our training program, including a Training Center online, and trained thousands of women.
