Vice President Kamala Harris Joins EMILYs List Annual We Are EMILY Gala Ahead of Consequential Election

Sen. Duckworth, Sen. Baldwin, former Rep. Giffords, Lt. Gov. Flanagan, State Sen. Anthony, and more will outline what’s at stake this November

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  On Wednesday, May 8, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, will host its 2024 annual We Are EMILY Gala. The event will open with remarks from Vice President Kamala Harris and Amanda Zurawski, a Texas woman who nearly died after being denied an abortion in the state, to outline the stakes of this election and how we can protect reproductive rights for future generations. Vice President Harris has been leading the fight for reproductive freedom, including by holding more than 80 events on the issue since Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Centered around the theme “The Time is Now: Elect Democratic Pro-Choice Women,” we will hear from EMILYs List-endorsed candidates, elected officials, and Democratic leaders reminding us that abortion is on the ballot and highlighting why 2024 is one of the most consequential elections of our lifetimes. As Republicans continue to strip away access to reproductive health care and set their sights on a national ban, the program will emphasize the importance of electing Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot who will protect and defend abortion rights across the country.

The program will also feature remarks from EMILYs List’s President Jessica Mackler, Sen. Tammy Duckworth, Sen. Tammy Baldwin, former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, State Sen. Sarah Anthony, EMILYs List Board Chair Rebecca Haile, and EMILYs List Board Member Michael Tubbs. During the program, the We Are EMILY Award will be presented to Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth, a stark champion for reproductive freedom and steadfast fighter for IVF access in the U.S. Senate, and the 2024 Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award will be presented to Michigan state Sen. Sarah Anthony, a fierce advocate for women and girls and groundbreaker throughout her career.
