Schriock: Democrats’ Bold New Economic Agenda Will Help American Women and Families
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Democrats in the Senate and the House launched the Democratic Party's economic agenda for the 2018 midterms, focused on helping working families across the United States. In response, Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, released the following statement:
“The Democratic Party is built on strong values and the belief that everyone deserves a fair shot to make it in America. We are the party whose policies will make life better for working families in this country. That’s why we’re fighting for good paying jobs and the opportunity to learn the skills to succeed in the 21st century. It’s why we’re working to increase Americans' pay and lower their expenses – particularly their health care and prescription drug costs. It's why we’re pushing to raise the minimum wage and revitalize our national infrastructure. Together, Democrats will put families first – not billionaire executives.”
“We know that if we want these critical policies in place, we need leaders who will fight for them in Congress and legislatures across the country – which is why EMILYs List will continue our work to elect strong, pro-choice Democratic women to office. Women and their families deserve a better deal.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy,EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
