Schriock: A “Yes” Vote on Trumpcare Will Be Republicans’ Legacy in 2018 and 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released a revised version of the Republican Senate bill to replace the Affordable Care Act. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY's List, released the following statement:
“The only people who want this bill to pass are Donald Trump and out-of-touch Washington Republicans – not American women and families. No matter how many times Mitch McConnell tries to polish the rust off this dangerous piece of legislation, these are the facts: Trumpcare would strip health care from tens of millions of Americans, defund Planned Parenthood, cut maternity care, and cripple our economy.”
“Dean Heller, Jeff Flake, and their Senate colleagues should take a good, hard look in the mirror and think about if they want a yes vote on this bill to be their defining legacy during their run for re-election. Make no mistake: come 2018 and 2020, EMILY's List will fight to make sure every single voter has this bill in mind when they head to the ballot box.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $500 million to support pro-choice Democratic women candidates – making them one of the most successful political organizations ever. Our grassroots community of over five million members helps Democratic women wage competitive campaigns – and win. We recruit and train candidates, support strong campaigns, research the issues that impact women and families, and turn out women voters. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 116 women to the House, 23 to the Senate, 12 governors, and over 800 to state and local office. Forty percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Since the 2016 election, thousands of women and counting have reached out to us about running for office. To harness this energy, EMILYs List has launched Run to Win, an unprecedented effort to get more women to run at the local, state, and national levels.
