EMILYs List Endorses Tricia Zunker in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District
Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Tricia Zunker for Congress in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is thrilled to endorse Tricia Zunker for Congress. As an associate justice on the Ho-Chunk Supreme Court and president of the Wausau School Board, Tricia is a trailblazer who has dedicated her career to public service. Under her leadership, the Wausau School Board has worked to support teachers and end school bullying. Once elected, Tricia will be the first Native American to represent Wisconsin in Congress. EMILYs List is confident that Tricia will bring effective new leadership to Washington for Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District, and we are proud to endorse her campaign.”
Tricia Zunker is a proven community leader and educator running for Congress to advocate for Wisconsin working families. Tricia was born and raised in Wausau, Wisconsin, where her mother is a proud member of United Steelworkers Local 2-224 and her father worked as a laborer with special carpentry skills. She was the first person in her family to graduate from college, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and she went on to earn a law degree from UCLA. In 2013, Tricia was elected by her People, the Ho-Chunk Nation, to serve as an associate justice to the Ho-Chunk Supreme Court, and she helped create Indigenous Peoples Days across the region. Tricia was elected to the Wausau School Board in 2018 and currently serves as president. Tricia is a remote professor for three universities across the country, serving non-traditional students. She is a solo parent to a 9-year-old son, Timothy.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 50,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
