EMILYs List Endorses Nicole Galloway for Missouri Governor
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Nicole Galloway for governor of Missouri. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“As the only Democrat currently holding statewide office in Missouri, Nicole Galloway has a successful track record of putting people over partisan politics. In her four years as state auditor, she has held the government accountable to taxpayers by uncovering millions in fraud and wasteful spending. Nicole has worked hard to bring transparency and accountability to state government, and as governor, she will continue to put Missouri families first and make sure their best interests are driving public decision-making.
“Nicole is running against incumbent Republican Governor Mike Parson, who has sidelined Medicaid expansion and denied over 200,000 Missourians access to quality, affordable health care. Nicole has made expanding access to affordable health care one of her top priorities, along with increasing funding to public schools. EMILYs List is proud to support this champion for Missouri families, who would be the first woman governor in state history.”
Nicole Galloway is a lifelong Missourian currently serving as Missouri State Auditor. She is a watchdog for government transparency and accountability and holds public officials accountable to citizens. Nicole earned her undergraduate degree in applied mathematics and economics from Missouri University of Science & Technology and went on to earn her MBA from the University of Missouri. She became a certified public accountant and a certified fraud examiner, and served as Boone County Treasurer before serving in her current position. In 2017, Nicole became Missouri’s first statewide office holder to have a baby while in office. The only Democratic state office holder serving in deep red Missouri, Nicole has led on family-friendly policies such as paid parental leave. Nicole lives in Columbia with her husband and three sons.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 50,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
