EMILYs List Endorses Margaret Good in Florida’s 16th Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Margaret Good for Congress in Florida’s 16th Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“EMILYs List selected Margaret Good as a Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award nominee because of her effective leadership in the Florida state legislature, and now, we are proud to support her campaign to represent Florida families as a new voice in Congress. As deputy minority leader in the state House, Margaret has fought for commonsense reforms to prevent gun violence, increased public school funding, and access to affordable health care. In Congress, Margaret will stand up for Florida working families and work to expand economic opportunities to everyone she represents.
“Margaret is running against Congressman Vern Buchanan, a Republican who has toed his party line and prioritized special interests over the Floridians he represents. Margaret will bring a much-needed, fresh perspective to Congress on behalf of this district. EMILYs List looks forward to standing with this champion for Florida families in her fight to flip this seat.”
Margaret Good represents Florida’s 72nd House District and serves as deputy minority leader. Moments after she was sworn into office, 17 Floridians lost their lives in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting. She immediately began advocating for commonsense solutions to end gun violence and introduced legislation to require background checks. She has also been a strong advocate for reducing health care costs and investing in public education. Margaret, an attorney, received her law degree from the University of Florida. Margaret lives in Sarasota with her husband Richard and their dog, Barney.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 50,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state and national offices.
