EMILYs List Statement on U.S. Senate Republicans Passing Devastating Budget Bill

July 1, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senate Republicans passed a devastating budget bill that cuts Medicaid, food assistance, and other social services, and makes life less affordable for the majority of Americans in order to provide tax benefits to big corporations and the ultra-wealthy. This bill could eliminate health insurance for up to 20 million Americans and cost working-class families thousands of dollars more in everyday costs per year. It actively rolls back abortion access by targeting Planned Parenthood, putting 200 of its clinics at risk of closing, and prohibiting Medicaid funding for other entities that provide abortion care. It will now go back to the U.S. House for consideration.

EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement in response:

Shame on every last Republican who chose to endanger millions of lives and abandon working families to give their billionaire friends a tax break. This is a slap in the face to Americans who are already struggling with the fallout of Republicans’ reckless economic agenda. Voters won’t forget this betrayal. It will come back to haunt Republicans in 2026 when those same voters send them into early retirement.”
