EMILYs List Statement on Trump Administration Stripping Federal Protections for Emergency Abortion Care
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Trump administration rolled back federal guidance protecting health care providers who perform abortions needed to stabilize patients experiencing medical emergencies. Under the Biden administration, the Emergency Medicine Treatment and Labor Act required hospitals to perform abortions when necessary to save a patient’s life, regardless of abortion bans in that state. This move allows hospitals to deny life-saving abortion care to patients in medical crises.
Sara Spain, director of strategic communications at EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Republicans are on a crusade to eliminate abortion access, and they’re happy to endanger our lives to do so. They were never going to leave abortion up to voters in the states; they are going to continue their assault on our lives and freedoms until they’re stripped of their power to do so. Mark my words, this cycle EMILYs List is going to take away that power.”
