EMILYs List Statement on Tonight’s Debate
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to tonight’s presidential debate, EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Kamala Harris gave a masterclass in how to win a debate tonight, offering Americans a new way forward. Harris’ vision for America is focused on giving the American people a future in which every person can thrive, while Trump remains focused on helping himself, airing grievances, and divisive attacks.
Donald Trump also confirmed what we have always known: Trump in the White House will mean a national abortion ban. After again claiming credit for overturning Roe v. Wade, Trump twice refused to say he would veto a national abortion ban. It’s no surprise given his record, but it is a reminder that despite his lies to voters, he is an anti-abortion extremist.
Kamala Harris used her time to tell the stories of the people impacted by Trump abortion bans across the country, to offer a plan for a future in which our freedoms are restored, and to remind voters of why it matters to elect a president who will tirelessly fight for our rights.
EMILYs List couldn’t be more proud to stand with her, tonight and every night.”
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
