EMILYs List Statement on HHS Confirmation Hearing for RFK Jr.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in his HHS confirmation hearings that Trump asked him to reevaluate the safety of and potentially restrict mifepristone, the first of a two-drug regimen used for medication abortion. Mifepristone has a stronger safety record than other common drugs like Tylenol, Viagra, and Penicillin, and has over two decades of FDA approval. In the United States, mifepristone is now used in more than half of all abortions. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released a statement in response:
“Let’s be clear: a ban on mifepristone is a national abortion ban. Today’s hearing is yet another proof point that Trump’s agenda is to make abortion inaccessible for Americans across the country. Trump, RFK Jr., and the rest of the MAGA extremists are out of step with the will of the American people, and they are not going to stop until they have stripped us of all our reproductive rights in this country.”
