EMILYs List Statement on Donald Trump Naming J.D. Vance to Complete His Anti-Choice Ticket

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, following Donald Trump’s announcement that he was naming J.D. Vance as his vice presidential nominee, EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“This election will decide the future of reproductive rights in this country, impacting millions of Americans’ health and lives. Trump’s pick further demonstrates both what’s at stake and the choice we have in this election on abortion rights. Today, Donald Trump added yet another proof point that his administration will be devastating to our reproductive rights. It’s no surprise that someone who proudly takes credit for overturning Roe v. Wade wants to run and govern with someone who shares his anti-choice agenda. By naming Vance to his ticket, Trump made clear that his administration will sign a national abortion ban and put birth control and IVF at risk. Vance has an extremist record of his own: supporting a national abortion ban and voting to block protections for IVF. Voters have a clear choice in this election, and EMILYs List knows what a stark contrast J.D. Vance is from Vice President Kamala Harris, a vocal and powerful advocate for our abortion rights. We are prouder than ever to stand with Vice President Harris and can’t wait to see her reelection.”

Donald Trump:

  • Repeatedly and correctly took credit for overturning Roe v. Wade.
  • Said he would sign a national abortion ban.
  • Attacked and undermined access to birth control.
  • Deeply tied to extremists that actively oppose IVF.  

J.D. Vance:

  • Supported a national abortion ban, saying, “Some minimum national standard is totally fine with me.”
  • Endorsed by and received an A+ rating from anti-abortion group SBA List.
  • Co-sponsored the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which spreads misinformation with the goal of banning safe and legal abortion.
  • Voted to block nationwide access to IVF.
