EMILYs List Statement on Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs Passing State Veto Record, Blocking Republican Extremism

July 1, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs passed the state record for number of bills vetoed in one legislative session, reaching 170. This record reflects Gov. Hobbs blocking extreme Republican bills that threaten the policies Arizonans elected her to defend. While holding the line against extremism, Gov. Hobbs has worked bipartisanly to sign 225 bills into law so far this session — including legislation to cut everyday costs, expand health care access, and advance educational opportunities for Arizonans.

EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

This is exactly why it matters that we have Democratic women governors in office. While holding the line against Republican extremism, Governor Hobbs has signed legislation protecting her constituents from gun violence, attacks on reproductive health care, and efforts to make voting in Arizona more difficult.

“This cycle, it’s critical that we protect Democratic seats in the state legislature and Governor Hobbs’ veto power. At EMILYs List, we’re knee-deep recruiting women who are best positioned to help not only protect those seats, but flip the Arizona state House and Senate in our favor.”
