EMILYs List Puts MAGA Mike Johnson “On Notice” with His Extremist Republican Supporters

November 3, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, announced that it was placing Speaker of the House Rep. Mike Johnson (LA-04) “On Notice” along with the 23 of his extremist Republican supporters that EMILYs List has already put “On Notice.” In addition to being a 2020 election denier, Johnson’s radical anti-abortion record is extensive:

  • He cosponsored a total federal abortion ban with no exceptions
  • He voted to punish doctors for providing reproductive health care
  • He is advocating to defund Planned Parenthood
  • He even opposed legislation that would protect access to contraception

EMILYs List Interim President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“MAGA Mike Johnson and his supporters have made their plan to ban abortion crystal clear. Every single one of the Republicans EMILYs List has already put ‘On Notice’ voted to install Johnson as speaker, endorsing his radical agenda and showing their true priorities. There’s no excuse for being, or supporting, an anti-abortion election-denying conspiracy theorist, and our fundamental rights are in jeopardy with this extremist and his supporters in office. It’s more critical than ever that we make our voices heard at the ballot box and vote Democratic pro-choice women into office who will protect our freedoms and fight to ensure every American has access to the reproductive health care they need.”

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
