EMILYs LIST Endorses Vice President Kamala Harris for Reelection
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for reelection. EMILYs List has endorsed Vice President Harris in previous races for local, state and federal office and is proud to support her in and honor her work on behalf of reproductive rights, voting rights and the betterment of all Americans.
The endorsement is being announced with NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund as part of a joint effort to support the re-election of the Biden-Harris administration as critical to supporting reproductive rights in America.
EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“When the Dobbs decision ended a constitutional right for the first time in this country’s history, we were grateful to have leaders in the White House like President Biden and Vice President Harris, who have been vocal advocates for abortion rights across the government and across the country. From fighting in court to working across agencies to offering a budget that would protect abortion rights for everyone, this is the most pro-choice administration we’ve ever seen.
For her work as a groundbreaker, tireless advocate for reproductive freedom, and inspiring change-maker, EMILYs List is thrilled to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for reelection. Since breaking one of the highest and hardest glass ceilings in politics, Vice President Harris has been a vital partner to President Biden in tackling the challenges facing our nation. She has also been a leader within the administration on issues ranging from voter protections to workers’ rights to foreign policy, a history-making leader who has secured significant accomplishments for voters across the country.
Vice President Harris has been a steadfast fighter throughout her career for women and their abortion rights–a role that is more important than ever before.
Every day, Kamala Harris lives the directive of her mother that she may be the first, but she should make sure she’s not the last.”
EMILYs List also endorsed Vice President Harris in each of her previous offices, as San Francisco district attorney, California attorney general and U.S. senator. As the first woman to serve as attorney general in California, Vice President Harris held big banks accountable during the housing crisis, fought for marriage equality and LGBTQ+ rights, and established the first Bureau of Children’s Justice. As only the second Black woman and first Indian American woman elected to the U.S. Senate, Vice President Harris served on the Intelligence and Judiciary Committees. In the Senate, she fought to raise awareness of and pass legislation on issues ranging from maternal health care, to protections for DREAMers, to the climate crisis, to supporting historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
The Biden-Harris administration has passed crucial legislation to rebuild our infrastructure, fight inflation, rebuild the economy, and address our changing climate. Vice President Harris has been a vital voice on key domestic issues and a strategic leader in critical relationships around the world. She has cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate to pass several key pieces of legislation.
She is the embodiment of EMILYs List’s mission: a woman who has run, won and is changing the world.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
