EMILYs List Endorses State Sen. Emily Randall for Washington’s Sixth Congressional District

August 14, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed state Sen. Emily Randall for Washington’s 6th Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Sen. Emily Randall for Washington’s 6th Congressional District. Randall has a proven track record of working for Washingtonians to ensure they have accessible and affordable higher education, secure reproductive rights and abortion access, and Medicaid expansion. She is committed to serving her community and there is no doubt in our minds that she will continue her great work in Congress. We are thrilled to stand with her in the election and make history with her once again.”

Sen. Emily Randall was born and raised in Port Orchard, Washington. Her parents and teachers instilled in her the value of education. She is the first in her family to attend a four-year college and that led to her understanding the importance of making the path to higher education more accessible. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 2004 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and women’s studies from Wellesley College. Randall’s passion for helping others stems from her deeply rooted upbringing. She is the oldest of three children and experienced the positive impact the government had on her youngest sister, who was born with complex medical needs. It was through these life-changing experiences that Randall was able to find her drive for helping people and fighting for affordable higher education and health care access expansion. With the support of EMILYs List, she was elected to the Washington state Senate representing the 26th District in November 2018. She became the first queer woman state senator in Washington. Randall led the charge to numerous landmark pieces of legislation bettering the lives of Washingtonians. She has fought to protect abortion access by expanding the providers who could offer critical reproductive care making Washington a haven for people seeking abortion care across the country, expand postpartum Medicaid coverage, ban subminimum wage for folks with disabilities, and improve apprenticeship programs for high school graduates by securing investments in essential infrastructure. She serves as the deputy majority leader and sits on the Senate Higher Education and Workforce Development, Senate Health and Long Term Care, and Ways and Means committees. Randall lives in Bremerton with her wife Alison and their dogs, Frida and Ricky Martina. If elected, Randall would become the first queer Latina elected to Congress. Additionally, she would also be the first ever woman, Latina, and person of color to hold the WA-06 seat. Randall would also be the first openly LBGTQ+ person in the Washington delegation in Congress.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
