EMILYs List Endorses Sima Ladjevardian in Texas’ 2nd Congressional District
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Sima Ladjevardian in Texas’ 2nd Congressional District. Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“Sima Ladjevardian is a tireless activist and champion for Texas working families, and EMILYs List is thrilled to endorse her campaign for Congress. An Iranian-American immigrant and breast cancer survivor, Sima knows firsthand the importance of protecting and expanding access to health care, education, and economic opportunity. She has spent her career fighting for Texans as an attorney and as senior advisor for Beto O’Rourke’s U.S. Senate campaign, and now she’s fighting to represent the Lone Star State in Washington. When she turns this seat blue in November, Sima will be the first Iranian-American to serve in Congress and the first woman to represent her district, and EMILYs List is proud to stand with her.”
Sima Ladjevardian is a lawyer, a mother of two, a breast cancer survivor, and a political activist running for Congress to fight for Texas working families. Sima’s family fled political upheaval and revolution in Iran to find security and opportunity in the United States. Through her journey as an immigrant, Sima has seen firsthand the power and promise that America’s freedom can provide hardworking families. As a political activist, she has worked to elect candidates up and down the ballot. Sima recently served as a senior advisor and finance chair to Beto O’Rourke during his groundbreaking 2018 U.S. Senate race, and joined his presidential campaign to work towards a more inclusive America. Now she is running for Congress to represent the health care needs of Houston’s families.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $600 million to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect 150 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and nearly 1,100 women to state and local office. Nearly 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. During the historic 2017-2018 cycle, EMILYs List raised a record-breaking $110 million and launched a record independent expenditure campaign. We helped elect 34 new women to the House, including 24 red-to-blue victories; enough seats to have delivered the U.S. House majority alone. Since the 2016 election, more than 55,000 women have reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices.
