November 21, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Shelley Buck in the special election to fill Minnesota House District 47A. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“As a mom and former President of the Prairie Island Tribal Council, Shelley Buck knows firsthand the challenges facing Minnesota’s families and is running to be a voice for them in the Minnesota state House. Electing Shelley is critical to maintaining a tie in this chamber. EMILYs List is proud to endorse her campaign, and we look forward to her becoming the first Native woman to win this seat.”

Shelley Buck is a mom, non-profit executive, and former local leader of the Prairie Island Indian Community. With the help of state-level programs that made college affordable, Shelley was able to receive a quality education, and she believes Minnesota families deserve the same opportunities to thrive. She knows firsthand the experience of families struggling to get by. That life experience shaped her to have a keen understanding to ensure her community is safe and livable and has access to affordable housing and health care. As a former president of the Prairie Island Tribal Council, Shelley created a zero-carbon energy strategy, partnered with law enforcement to empower the Prairie Island Tribal Police to keep communities safe, and expanded access to COVID-19 vaccines during the very early parts of the outbreak to protect elders and the surrounding community. Now, Shelley is running for Minnesota state House District 47A to be a champion for working families and the environment.
