EMILYs List Endorses Shannon Taylor for Election to Virginia’s 1st Congressional District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Henrico’s top prosecutor Shannon Taylor for election to Virginia’s 1st Congressional District. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Shannon Taylor has spent her career protecting Virginians — putting violent criminals behind bars, holding fraudsters accountable, and standing up for working families. Meanwhile, Republican incumbent Rob Wittman has spent nearly 20 years in Congress enriching himself while voting to gut health care, drive up costs, and put local hospitals at risk. Voters in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District deserve a leader who will fight for them, not against them, and EMILYs List is proud to endorse Shannon as she takes this fight to Congress and helps us flip the House.”
Shannon Taylor is a lifelong Virginian and Henrico County’s top prosecutor, where she made history as the first woman and first Democrat in 24 years elected to the role. She has spent the last 12 years protecting her community by putting violent criminals and fraudsters behind bars, creating a task force to combat the opioid crisis, pioneering programs to support victims of human trafficking, and taking illegal guns off the streets. When Roe v. Wade was overturned, Shannon was one of the first prosecutors in the nation to declare she would refuse to criminalize doctors or their patients. In Congress, she will bring that same record of fighting for Virginians to lower costs, clean up crime and corruption, and protect access to affordable health care.
