EMILYs List Endorses Seven Democratic Pro-Choice Women to the Arizona State Legislature

May 22, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed seven Democratic pro-choice women to the Arizona state Legislature. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:

“This year, the nation watched as Arizona state Republicans worked to dismantle reproductive freedoms through the Arizona Supreme Court decision to uphold a draconian 1864 abortion ban. But we also watched Arizona Democrats lead the charge in the state Legislature to repeal this ban and fight back against further attempts to restrict abortion access. This election cycle EMILYs List has made it a priority to help achieve a Democratic trifecta. This is why it is vital to secure Democratic pro-choice majorities in the state House and Senate by flipping two seats in both chambers. There is so much at stake in this election, and these seven women are dedicated to protecting our freedoms and ensuring quality education, clean water and energy, and affordable housing. EMILYs List is thrilled to support each of them.”

EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of candidates for election:

  • Sharon Lee Winters, AZ-Senate LD13
  • Stacey Seaman, AZ-Senate LD16
  • Stephanie Simacek, AZ-House LD02
  • Kelli Butler, AZ-House LD04
  • Karen Gresham, AZ-House LD04
  • Brandy Reese, AZ-House LD13
  • Deborah Howard, AZ-House LD27

Kelli Butler was previously endorsed by EMILYs List in 2014, 2018, and 2020.

EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
