EMILYs List Endorses Sarah Godlewski for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin
Today, EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Sarah Godlewski for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin. Emily Cain, executive director of EMILYs List, released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is thrilled to endorse Sarah Godlewski for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin. For far too long, Wisconsin’s working families have struggled to make ends meet, all while their elected representatives in Washington prioritize partisanship, division, and conspiracy theories. Sarah Godlewski will end that. Throughout her career, Sarah has been a dedicated advocate for women and children, small businesses, climate action, and financial literacy. We know that as a U.S. senator, she will work tirelessly to bring meaningful changes to Wisconsin’s working families. EMILYs List could not be prouder to stand with Sarah as she flips this seat from red to blue in 2022.”
Born and raised in Eau Claire by two public school teachers, Sarah is a fifth generation Wisconsinite, a businesswoman, a financial expert, and an experienced public servant running for the U.S. Senate. While attending George Mason University, she took out significant student loans and worked as a waitress and teacher’s assistant. After graduating, Sarah spent nearly a decade working with the Pentagon to help curb wasteful spending. She met her husband, Max, when they served together on the board of UNICEF USA Advocacy Group working to bring food, education, and opportunity to kids across the country. They later launched MaSa Partners, a social impact venture that invests in renewable energy projects, start-ups, and women-owned businesses. In 2018, Sarah ran for Wisconsin state treasurer, and with the help of EMILYs List, won with 51 percent of the vote.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 157 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and more than 1,300 women to state and local office. More than 40 percent of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. After the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices. In our effort to elect more women in offices across the country, we have created our Run to Win program, expanded our training program, including a Training Center online, and trained thousands of women.
